Everything you need to know about Trespa® screws

When working with high-quality materials such as HPL and Trespa®, you naturally need matching screws in the right colour. Our high-quality stainless steel screws are suitable for fixing both HPL and Trespa® sheets. The screw head has a diameter of 12 millimeters. HPL screws, also known as Torx screws, have a convex head with a wide and flat contact surface. With this, the sheet is well compressed around the borehole, without the top layer being damaged or distorted.

Applications of screws for HPL and Trespa®

With our HPL screws, you can fix Trespa® and other HPL panels. For example, you will need these screws if you want to attach new fascia boards or wall cladding.

Tip: Are you planning to glue HPL? We recommend using Bostik glue for a smooth result.

Types of HPL screws

All HPL screws have a length of 38 mm and a diameter of 4.8 mm. The screw head is finished with a strong, durable epoxy colour coating. We offer these screws in the most common RAL colours, ranging from chocolate brown to signal yellow.

Working with Torx screws

To mount Torx screws, use the Torx bit T20. When screwing in, make sure that you place the screw bit perpendicularly in the screw head. If you do not do this, the colour coating of the screw may be damaged. Also make sure you use undamaged, well-fitting bits.

Good to know:

When you attach Trespa® and HPL plates with screws, you always use one screw as a fixing point. This screw determines the positioning of the sheet. The fixing point screw has a smaller borehole (5 mm) than the other fixing screws. The other screw holes have a diameter of 8 mm. This allows the sheet to expand under the screw head. Tighten the HPL screw a maximum of a quarter turn if the head touches the sheet. The screw has sufficient contact pressure to hold the sheet firmly in place and you prevent the top layer from breaking or tearing.

Maintenance of HPL screws

HPL screws are stainless and do not require any maintenance. Once fixed, it is, of course, important that you clean the Trespa® or HPL sheet every now and then. With the right maintenance equipment, cleaning HPL is a breeze. Thoroughly clean your HPL exterior cladding at least once a year. This way it stays looking beautiful and the material will certainly last for 30 years. Check our tips for cleaning Trespa® and HPL.

Nice to know:
The best way to clean HPL exterior cladding is to use Kenotek Brilliant Wash detergent. This mild shampoo removes all dirt deposits in an instant. The shampoo is self-drying and leaves a protective wax layer on the plastic.

Description

Working with high quality sheet material also requires high quality fastening methods. Mounting Trespa® / HPL sheets can be achieved by using the matching HPL screws. What makes these screws so special is the fact that they match the exact RAL colour of each sheet in our range. These stainless-steel screws have a diameter of 4.8 millimetres and are 38 millimetres long. The round head has a wide, flat bearing surface which creates good downward pressure on the sheet without damaging or distorting the top layer. Make sure not to turn the screw more than a quarter turn once the bearing surface has reached the sheet. This will ensure enough pressure without causing damage to the top layer.

 Characteristics of the HPL screws

The head of the screws have a strong and durable epoxy colour coating. This coating makes the screws corrosion resistant. The HPL screws are available in a large number of colours and in our online shop you will find the most common RAL colours. For each coloured HPL sheet that we stock, you will find a matching RAL colour screw in our assortment. Keep in mind that you don’t damage the anti-corrosion layer on the screws when handling it. We recommend using an undamaged, well fitted bit for fastening the screws. The HPL screws have a Torx T20 head and you can find the matching Torx T20 bit in our selection of accessories.

To ensure a strong screw connection, it is important to have a well-thought-out mounting plan. Based on this action plan you can decide where to drill the holes in the sheet. Remember to calculate in the weight and wind load of the sheet. Naturally, this is more pertinent for outdoor applications. In general, you can stick to 15 screws per square metre, with the screws evenly spread out. Drill the holes at least 20 mm from the edge of the sheet, but no further than 10 times the sheet thickness. So, for a 6 mm thick sheet, the holes cannot be further than 6 centimetres from the edge.

To start off, place one screw as a fixing point. This screw will be leading for properly positioning the sheet. This first screw will have a smaller hole than the rest of the screws, namely 5 mm. The other holes will be 8 mm wide to give the HPL sheet room to expand. This is also the reason why the screws cannot be turned too tightly.
