As well as its higher strength and impact resistance, acrylic also has another advantage over glass: it is lighter. For the same thickness, acrylic sheet is about half as light as glass. It is nevertheless as well to take the weight of acrylic sheet into account because even if you are going to work with acrylic, it is advisable to make the surrounding construction strong enough.
What is the weight of acrylic?
Acrylic sheet has a specific weight of 1.2 kilos per square metre, per millimetre of sheet thickness. In the following overview, we give the weights per sheet thickness, per square metre:
