Makrolon® is a high-quality polycarbonate brand. This material has been specifically developed for outdoor applications. Makrolon® combines all the best qualities of polycarbonate, together with properties specifically designed for outdoor use. To achieve this performance, and to ensure extreme UV resistance, Makrolon® underwent intensive testing by simulating various artificially reproduced climatic conditions.
Makrolon® is the brand name for a specific type of polycarbonate sheet. Many of the properties of standard polycarbonate are also offered by Makrolon®, however, Makrolon® differs from standard polycarbonate because it was developed specifically for outdoor applications. The result? Imagine all the excellent qualities of polycarbonate – such as extreme impact resistance and high transparency – and add a whole host of other special properties. Makrolon® has high UV resistance and can withstand extremely low or extremely high temperatures, from -100 up to +115 degrees Celsius! Makrolon® also offers excellent acoustic insulation characteristics for outdoor use, and boasts a long service life, even with intensive outdoor use.
Makrolon® polycarbonate is available in thicknesses of 3, 4 and 5 mm in a transparent version. Transparent Makrolon® panels are up to 90% translucent, depending on the thickness chosen. Makrolon® can be processed in the same way as standard polycarbonate. For this reason, we recommend using the same tools as those used for machining metal. Of course, you should make sure that all tools are sharp. You should also avoid using cutting oil. For drilling Makrolon® we recommend a carbide drill bit. If you intend to hot-bend the Makrolon®, make sure to dry the panel thoroughly, otherwise unsightly moisture bubbles may form during bending.
