A door canopy or canopy not only protects you and your fellow residents, it also reduces the impact of rain, wind and snow on your front door. If you install a door canopy above the door, but also on both sides of the door, it will provide extra protection against cold wind blowing into your entrance.

A door canopy also gives a luxurious look to your house, increasing the value of your home.

If you already have a door canopy, but it’s broken. You can easily replace it yourself. Transparent acrylic or polycarbonate is a very suitable replacement. With acrylic, choose the moulded form: it is nice and clear and has less chance of cracking while working on it, such as drilling or bending. Incidentally, you can simply include pre-drilled screw holes in your order.

If you want to replace a bent sheet door canopy, you can bend polycarbonate or acrylic yourself. Choose a thickness of 4 mm for this.

Do not overtighten screws and use rubber washers when screwing. Acrylic and polycarbonate shrink and expand with changes in temperature. So make sure the sheet has some room to move, to avoid tension and cracks.

Acrylic and polycarbonate are both sturdy, lightweight and beautifully transparent. Acrylic is also available in opal white and tinted colours. Polycarbonate also comes in opal white and tinted brown and grey. Polycarbonate is even sturdier than acrylic; it is also impact resistant. Both materials will never shatter into a thousand pieces like glass can.

Think about whether you are going to use the frame of your old door canopy and just replace the sheet or make a new door canopy yourself. If replacing: measure the dimensions of the old panel and order a new panel in the same matching size. For a new door canopy, decide in advance how you will attach it, so that you can include the drill holes and any cut-outs in the order module.

Enter the length, width and drill holes in the order module. You will immediately see the price. You pay per m2 so that there is no wastage. Even if you need a cut-out, e.g. for a rain pipe, you can include it here.

Strange or difficult shapes are also possible, such as a semi-circle, for above your door. Simple shapes can be ordered in the order module. The thicker, the sturdier your plastic canopy. For acrylic, we recommend a minimum thickness of 5 mm. For polycarbonate, you need a minimum thickness of 4 mm. This will ensure that your door canopy is strong enough for wind, rain and hail. Always make sure that you fasten it properly.

To enjoy your canopy as long as possible, we recommend that you maintain the plastic properly. This will also extend the life of the material. It is not difficult: use soft cloths for cleaning, together with soapy water. Beware of abrasive cleaners and glass cleaners, they will make your door canopy dull.
