Infinity rear light for vintage 1960s moped

Dwight crafted an impressive tail light for his vintage 1960s moped, complete with a fascinating infinity effect. Using multiple layers of acrylic and an LED strip, he creates the illusion of peering into a long, illuminated tunnel. The use of durable acrylic enhances the marvellous light effect and gives the moped a unique appearance.

The Project

Dwight has designed an infinity tail light for his vintage 1960s moped. “When this tail light is on, it’s as if you’re looking into a long tunnel of light. The light is composed of three layers of 8mm acrylic, a piece of red reflective acrylic, and an LED strip,” Dwight explains.

Step-By-Step Guide to create this yourself:

steps

  1. Cut

Start by cutting your acrylic to size using a milling bit on a dremel. Cut into the desired shapes.

  2. Sand the edges

Next, sand the edges with varying grits of sandpaper until smooth for the best finish.

  3. Put together

Put together the layers of acrylic in the correct order with the LED strip and red reflective acrylic to achieve the infinity effect.

  4. Fix

Fix everything securely onto the moped.

Dwight's Tips for Others

“My advice would be to have a lot of patience. I roughly sized the material with the milling bit on the dremel. Afterwards, I smoothed it out using various grits of sandpaper for the best result.”
