Processing options for acrylic

With the right tools and preparations, acrylic can be processed very well. Sawing, drilling or even engraving, it is all possible on acrylic. Be careful when choosing the type of acrylic. There are two types: extruded (XT) and cast (GS) acrylic. If you want to process your acrylic yourself, we recommend cast acrylic. Wondering why? We will tell you more about it below.

Materials

So there are two types of acrylic; cast and extruded acrylic. But despite these materials bearing the same name, there are some important differences between the versions.

With extruded acrylic, there is always an internal stress. This is because of the way extruded acrylic is made. With cast acrylic however, there is no internal stress.

When processed, extruded acrylic will split or break faster than cast acrylic because of this internal stress. However, extruded acrylic can still be processed, but with caution. Below, you will find more information on all the processing possibilities.
