1Removing the old pane
Precision and caution are key when taking the old pane out. Use a chisel and hammer to loosen the glazing beads carefully to avoid damaging the frame. Once the beads are off, remove the old pane, making sure not to let any glass shards escape. Clean the frame thoroughly of any old sealant residues using the 120-grit sandpaper and a paint scraper. Ensure the frame is entirely smooth and dust-free before fitting the new pane.
2Measuring and ordering a new pane
Measuring the opening in your frame accurately is crucial. Write down both the width and height precisely. Choose between acrylic, noted for its clarity and strength, or polycarbonate, which is extremely impact-resistant. If you want reduced sunlight or more privacy, consider tinted or frosted sheets. Order the sheet with a 3 mm gap around it for a perfect fit. Our online sheet calculator can help cut the sheets to size, including any holes or special shapes needed.

3Protecting the plastic sheet
To avoid scratches keep the protective film on your new plastic sheet intact until installation. Prevention is better than cure, so handle the sheet with care. Check that the sheet’s cut-outs and dimensions are exactly as needed before proceeding.
4Fitting the new pane
Place glazing tape to the frame and the glazing beads for secure clamping and strong support. Place 3 mm thick glazing spacers in the corners of the opening for stability and even pressure distribution. Gently slide the plastic sheet onto the spacers and ensure it lays flat. Firmly reattach the glazing beads by stapling or gluing them into place.
5Finishing and inspection
To make the installation water-tight and airtight, seal all the edges with silicone sealant suitable for plastics. Allow the sealant to dry for at least 24 hours for optimal results. Afterwards, inspect the finished work and polish the new pane with an anti-static cleaner and a soft cloth to remove any dust and fingerprints.
