Unique Acrylic Table with LED Lighting and Scaffold Wood

Niek has crafted a unique acrylic table with LED lighting. The use of opal white acrylic and scaffold wood, paired with a robust brick wall and ambient lighting, creates an impressive effect. He transformed a simple wall with just five Ikea shelves into a stunning centrepiece in his home.

The Project

Niek had no prior woodworking experience, but that didn’t stop him! He first created a digital sketch of his idea. While working on it, he frequently improved aspects he hadn’t initially planned. The acrylic tabletop was carefully measured and secured into place. The result? A beautiful opal white tabletop with an integrated Hue LED strip that creates a warm ambience. Niek: “I previously had a wall with only 5 Ikea shelves, and I wanted to revamp it… I’m really pleased with the result, especially with the opal white tabletop with the Hue strip underneath!”

Step-by-step guide to make this yourself

steps

  1. Visualise

Create a digital image of your idea before you start. This helps you work more directly.

  2. Measure

Accurately measure your acrylic tabletop. Determine the cutting side before you start sawing.

  3. Attach

Carefully attach the acrylic to the table legs and ensure it’s firmly secured.

Niek's tips

“Determine how high the tabletop should be in advance. Many table legs come in fixed sizes. I was lucky to find a manufacturer who makes an H-leg at 88 cm high!”
