Helmut has skillfully crafted a magnificent canopy using Douglas timber and made clever use of clear acrylic to keep the rain out. This homemade canopy ensures that everything beneath it remains dry while allowing plenty of light to flow through the acrylic sheets. It was a wise choice to use cast acrylic, as it’s easy to drill into for hanging purposes.
The project
Helmut constructed a sturdy canopy measuring 3000 x 6000 mm all by himself. To shield against the rain, he used strategically placed acrylic sheets sized 3000 x 350 x 3 mm at the edges. Helmut also added another acrylic sheet to the opposite side to guarantee a dry spot.

Helmut’s tips for others
“Definitely have a second or even a third person to help you lift the heaviest beam of 200 x 200 mm. It slipped from my grip, resulting in a (luckily) only one new scaffold board.”
